It is not a quality problem. It never was. The films that break through aren’t always the best ones. They are the ones that got seen, by the right people, at the right time. That is not luck. That is infrastructure. The internet gave every filmmaker access. It did not give them an audience. Uploading is not releasing. A release needs context, context needs credibility, and credibility needs a record. A festival selection is that record. It says this film was chosen, out of thousands, by a jury and not an algorithm. That distinction matters. Breaking through is not about better. It is about visible. Most films do not fail. They disappear. And disappearing is not the same as failing, but it ends the same way.
