Synopsis

“Nostos” captures the agony and the conditions under which a group of refugees leave their homeland, trying in every way to cross the international borders, seeking security. A journey of “life and death” for those who have lost everything, one that compels them to face a reality they didn’t choose.

Pavlos Vissariou

Pavlos Vissariou was born in Karditsa, Greece. He graduated from the “Kostas Kazakos School of Dramatic Art”. He took part in Modern Greek theatrical performances of classic and modern repertoire in the Athens Festival. He collaborated with the “Tzeni Karezi Theatre”, the “G. Michailidis Open Theatre”, the “G. Armenis Modern Greek Theatre”, the “Thessalikon Theatre” – Larisa MR Theatre (Municipal Regional Theatre), Volos MR Theatre, Agrinio MR Theatre, etc.

Pavlos performed in plays like William Shakespeare’s “King Lear”, Bertolt Brecht’s “Mother Courage and her Children”, Eduardo de Filippo’s “Inner Voices”, Dimitris Kechaidis’ “Laurels and Oleanders”, Iakovos Kambanellis’ “The Court of Miracles”, and more. He has worked as an Assistant Director of G. Michailidis at “G. Michailidis Open Theatre”.

He also took part in:

– seminars of Ancient Drama, Modern Greek Theatre, Creative Writing, plus more

– television productions and documentary series, like channel ERT1’s “Epestrephe” (=You Shall Return)

– award-winning historical films of the Hellenic Film Commission, Vangelis Serdaris’ “Vasiliki” (1998) at the Thessaloniki Film Festival (and abroad) and “O Evdomos Ilios Tou Erota” (=The Seventh Sun of Love, the soundtrack written by Mikis Theodorakis) (2002).

Pavlos Vissariou has also collaborated with the Athens School of Theatrical Studies for the play “Medea” (2004) and with the University of Thessaly for “Wedding March” (2006). In October of 2003 he edited the Honorary Tribute to director Theodoros Angelopoulos.

In 2004 he established in his hometown, Karditsa, along with the actress Vasiliki Makri the “Opseis Theatre”, in which he works as a director and actor. Their theatre continues to operate to this day as a significant Artistic Centre.

One of his latest productions was Panagiotis Mendis’ “Rosa” (2019), with a soundtrack written by Stamatis Kraounakis.

During 2020, Pavlos Vissariou has won numerous awards for Nostos:
